A forward-looking draft for the in-development Windows version of VFL Toolkit. The Apple apps are governed by the main Terms of Use.
Draft · not yet in effect · subject to change before the Windows app ships
The Windows application is in development. This draft describes the terms we intend for the Windows app and is not yet in effect. The final Windows Terms of Use will be published with the Windows release. For the iPhone, iPad, and Mac apps, the governing document is the VFL Toolkit Terms of Use.
VFL Toolkit is a professional productivity and drafting-support tool for Virginia-licensed attorneys and their authorized staff. It does not provide legal advice. You remain responsible for reviewing all calculations, deadlines, documents, filings, and legal conclusions before use. Content is provided for informational and drafting-support purposes only and is not warranted to be current, complete, or accurate for any particular matter.
The Windows application is in development. When released, it will run on supported Windows versions; system requirements will be published at launch. Functionality may vary across platforms and devices.
The Windows app is intended to offer its own subscription, handled and billed through the platform store used to distribute it — separate from the Apple App Store. You will manage, change, or cancel a Windows subscription through that platform's account tools. A subscription purchased on Windows is independent of any Apple subscription; the two are not interchangeable and one cannot be used to change or avoid the other. Final subscription, seat, and billing details will be published with the Windows release.
As on the Apple apps, the Windows app is intended to support optional integrations you authorize — for example Dropbox (matter sync and firm sharing, with your files remaining in your own Dropbox), a legal payment processor for client payments, and calendar export. Apart from integrations you expressly enable, matter data is intended to remain on your device unless you export, share, or transmit it. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any third-party service you connect and with your professional obligations, including trust-accounting and confidentiality rules.
You may authorize LawPay, map trust and operating settlement accounts, create hosted invoices, read payment status, request refunds, and reconcile completed payments into the local ledger. Pay Later, when activated by LawPay and offered to an eligible client, is third-party financing powered by Affirm. Neither the Developer, VFL Toolkit, nor your firm is the lender by virtue of the integration. The client must review and complete any application on the client's own device. You must not collect application data in the app, promise approval or terms, complete an application for a client, or treat financed proceeds as earned merely because the firm received them.
You are responsible for correct settlement-account mapping, distinguishing earned fees from client funds, obtaining appropriate payment authorization, following LawPay and card-network requirements, confirming provider and bank settlement, completing trust reconciliation, and recording fees, refunds, reversals, and chargebacks in the proper account. The app does not guarantee settlement, Pay Later eligibility, fraud prevention, or a successful chargeback defense. Guide language is a drafting aid for attorney review and does not waive lawful dispute rights.
The app is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law, and continuous availability is not guaranteed.
